The Healthiest Morning Routine

From the moment you open your eyes in the morning you begin to make choices. Those choices, whether through habit or very purposeful, can either set you up for success or let the day dictate for you.

When you take control of how your day unfolds, this is not just healthy, but very empowering as well. Research shows the best way to set the tone for the day is to tweak your morning routine.

Here I reveal the 5 most pivotal actions to take every morning to start your day on a healthy note.

Drink Water

Immediately upon rising drink 16 ounces of water. When you’ve gone 8 hours without ingesting water due to sleeping, you are mildly dehydrated. Dehydration can be reversed immediately by drinking water that ultimately prevents fatigue, headaches, lethargy, joint pain and much more. Drinking healthy water is key. Reconsider drinking tap water that has not been filtered.

Do Not Eat Breakfast

When you sleep each night, your body goes into a state of natural ketosis which helps to optimize health. Continue this ketosis via intermittent fasting, by skipping breakfast and instead, eat your first meal at lunch. You will not only help optimize your cellular health, you will also help promote weight loss. Intermittent fasting is one of the healthiest actions you can take. What are a few benefits of intermittent fasting?

  • Boosts weight loss.
  • Increases energy.
  • Promotes cellular repair and autophagy (cellular housekeeping).
  • Reduces insulin resistance and protects against type 2 diabetes.
  • Lowers bad cholesterol.
  • Promotes longevity.

Do 10 Reps

This is a great tip to keep you physically fit and very energized the first thing in the morning, alongside promoting muscle mass. Research shows that maintaining and promoting muscle growth is key to insulin sensitivity, lowered blood sugar, lower blood pressure and longevity. Do 10 reps of your choice of squats, push-ups or lunges.

Meditate

Our minds are constantly abuzz with monkey chatter. If you have ever meditated, you become aware of the constant and seemingly natural way thoughts emerge. Meditation helps you to declutter your mind by simply by letting go of thoughts that naturally come and refocusing back. This has a cumulative, profound effect upon success and health – not a bad way to start the day. What are a few of meditation’s benefits?

  • Reduces Stress
  • Improves Focus
  • Improves Relationships
  • Improves Memory
  • Helps Overcome Addictions
  • Increases Telomere Length
  • Boosts Immunity

Shower in the Cold

If you dare, a warm shower with a cold shower rinse in the morning is better than coffee! Besides powerful energy, cold showers boost circulation. The warm then cold shower water, constricts and dilates your blood vessels, which strengthens your immune system.

Cold showers also boost the metabolism-boosting good fat we all carry, brown fat, that can help achieve weight loss success. Cold shock proteins are produced when one gets cold thereby promoting longevity, testosterone, reducing depression and more.

Lifespan and healthspan goals should always include a cold shower!
