The 2016 4th Global Summit on the Health Effects of Yogurt
Yogurt is ubiquitous, it is everywhere you look and takes up precious real estate in the grocery store.. and rightly so. Recently, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the scientific YINI symposium entitled: Yogurt & (Type 2) Diabetes: Translating Evidence Into Practice. The event was 5 star and that includes the renowned researchers who presented their findings from around the world.
Yogurt has many beneficial effects on our optimal health, our weight and our moods. Researchers’ made it clear that that healthy gut microbiota can influence our metabolism, the development of obesity, diabetes and much more. In fact, over 70% of our immune system resides within the gut, 90% of the feel-good neuro-transmitter seratonin is made – not in the brain – but within the lining of our gut and healthy gut bacteria directly influence weight loss.
My interview with Professor Sharon Donovan was very interesting regarding our gut microbiota, yogurt and our optimal health.
Who knew yogurt could be such a power player in our repertoire of foods? It is. Yogurt’s impact upon weight, health and other lifestyle choices is astounding to say the least. Yes, that little container you may have in your fridge can help you lose weight, create optimal health and lead you to other healthful choices according to research.
Along with the new research presented, there was a tasting table with many dishes and recipes made with yogurt by well-known chefs/authors such as Hubert Cormier author of Ma Table Festive. I was fortunate enough to have tried his famous Lentil Patties and I have to say that they were scrumptious! There are many amazing ways to use yogurt in recipes and Hubert Cormier’s Lentil Patties are just one example.
