Small Steps To Success

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with a task or goal? I was interviewed yesterday and one of my statements that really seemed to resonate with the audience was that of breaking a task or goal down to Micro Actions.

Micro Actions are simply very small actions that are intended to:

  1. Get you started
  2. Break the task into highly manageable parts
  3. Make you focus on the task at hand.

Most people when they look at a task or goal see only the end result. What they then may feel is a sense of dread or foreboding when they realize what it may take to get to that end result.

Instead of focusing on the end result, begin by breaking each task or goal into smaller actions that you can accomplish successfully and do this every day. For example, you know that in order to lose fat you have certain actions to take each day to do that. Let’s choose drinking water. Water is one very important key to optimal health and weight loss. I recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces each day. This may seem daunting to some. Here is where breaking this task down to Micro-Action is effective You drink 1/2 glass more water each day until you are at the desired goal for water.

The result? You have now started the goal and are focused on it without the feeling of dread.  You have also created success. Success creates motivation and that will keep you moving forward.

Remember, all goals are a journey. The end result? It is simply the end. So enjoy the journey.
