Using the Power of Hypnosis to Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind for Health and Fitness
“Studies show that people who combine diet and exercise with hypnosis lose more weight than they do with diet and exercise alone.”
– Allure magazine, January 2010
When I first started using hypnosis to help others in changing their habits, it was frustrating at first. During those early years I realized that I only hit the surface of their problems and only created surface solutions. It wasn’t until I got deep into their subconscious mind to discover the truth of what held them back from reaching a goal (health or otherwise), did the hypnosis I was doing finally worked.
Beliefs and values are part of a deep-seeded area within the subconscious mind. That includes what we believe and value regarding health and fitness. Our beliefs and value come from the experiences we’ve had, from our parents and those we associate the most. In a sense, we were hypnotized by each of those areas.
Hypnosis is a natural occurrence. I know that many people have some dark view of it. That could be farther from the truth. Our subconscious mind is operating all the time. It’s the stuff happening below conscious awareness, hence, subconscious. Will power and such operate as a conscious awareness and does not affect the subconscious, unless it’s in line with it.
For example, if you already have a habit established, then using will power to enhance that habit works. Will power should be in line with your values and beliefs.
Hypnosis happens everyday. For example, have you ever driven on the freeway and had your mind drift, therefore, missing an exit or even thinking how you got from point A to point B? That is known as environmental hypnosis. We are constantly being hypnotized on a daily basis. Whether it’s a movie, a ball game, television, church, politics and so forth. Realize that unless you’re aware of it, you may be taken by it.
A hypnotist/hypnotherapist will use hypnosis to help change one’s subconscious program(s). The more ingrained the program that needs to be changed, the longer the process to change it. I’ve worked with clients where one session was enough. In others, it took longer. Most change quickly and I’m not a believer in long-term therapy. In fact, most long-term therapies, such as psychoanalysis, have a very low success rate. And still, schools of psychology mainly focus on those types of therapies. When I went through my doctoral program in psychology, there were no mention of short-term therapies (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, hypnotherapy). My thoughts were using long-term therapy keeps a client longer for the therapist.
If you have a habit that is deeply ingrained, then more sessions may certainly be needed. Your motivation to want to change habits will also go a long way towards how fast you change it. Understand that action of some sort (that moves you towards your goal) will be needed for rapid change.
There’s self-hypnosis and hetero-hypnosis (done by a someone other than you, a therapist). I would suggest using both for more effectiveness + coaching.
I’ll be putting together a hypnosis program soon that you will be able to use regarding your health and fitness. In the meantime, be aware of how your environment affects your subconscious mind. The more aware you are, the better you’ll be at stopping the negative effects and enhancing the positive ones. In fact, surround yourself with health and fitness. Watch videos, visit websites, read books and magazines and associate with the like-minded people.
I wish you the best in your health and fitness journey.
