The Ketogenic Key: Why We Wrote This Book and How It Can Change Your Life!
Guest Blog by Steve Welch, CFNC
Wow! I can’t believe I’m guest-blogging for Dr. Lori Shemek. For those of you who have seen or heard her on TV or on one of the many podcasts and radio shows she graciously speaks on, you already know that she’s such a rock star health and nutrition expert, especially around the topic of inflammation. Think of a show that provides health info, and she’s probably been on it, multiple times! So for me, it’s an honor and a privilege to first of all, be writing on her blog, and even moreso, second of all, to be her co-author on THE definitive book on all things ketosis: The Ketogenic Key: Unlock the Secrets to Lose Weight, Slow Aging, Stop Inflammation, and Prevent Disease! If you haven’t seen it yet, by all means check it out, it’s available here on Amazon.
Lori and I met through a mutual fitness and keto proponent, JD Griffin, the author of Get Fit, Lean and Keep Your Day Job: A Transformation Guide for Any Body (I served as Editor for the book) and we quickly realized that we both shared a very strong interest in ketogenic dieting, and the potential for ketogenic therapies to help people improve their health and tamp down inflammation I mean, Lori is the Inflammation Terminator after all, and if there’s one thing we know about keto, it’s that it helps stop inflammation in its tracks! (link here: https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.3804 ).
As we discussed different topics around nutrition and ketosis, we also realized that we shared a lot of the same view, particularly that we are both fans of the ketogenic diet and especially the HUGE health and anti-aging benefits of ketosis, and we both understand that it’s a difficult diet for some people to follow. And even more important, that there are other ways to achieve, support, enhance, and maintain ketosis that people needed to learn about. And THAT is what we wanted the book to do: explain all the ways ketones and the state of ketosis are healthy, and explain how you don’t have to do a strict ketogenic diet to get into and maintain a therapeutic state of ketosis!
That’s why our book is unique. It’s not just a ketogenic diet book. Sure, we do discuss the diet and teach you all about how to get started, what foods to eat and not eat, and even include a recipes section. Because we know that the pillars of health begin with what you eat – and don’t eat! And yet, there’s so much more that you can do to optimize ketosis. So we included detailed instructions on intermittent fasting, supplementing with exogenous ketones, and how exercise can play a big role in ketosis maintenance.
The bottom line is this: ketosis and ketones have amazing benefits. They help people lose weight, reverse diabetes, stabilize blood glucose, quell inflammation, slow the effects of cellular aging, provide a high-yield fuel for your body, and they have profound effects on the brain and cognitive function. We tackle all these topics and back them up with all the latest research – in fact we were adding the latest research as the book was going to press! – and we summarize the science in an easy to understand way.
The Ketogenic Key is more to us than just a book. It’s a roadmap for you to take control of your health and use a multi-pronged approach to achieving, maintaining, and mastering ketosis to optimize your body, brain, and quality of life. We can’t wait to hear what you think about it!
